Guadeloupe, an Eden for Digital Entrepreneurs
Guadeloupe is much more than a postcard of beaches and palm trees. It's a dynamic ecosystem, conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship. Let me explain why this island is a top choice for digital entrepreneurs.
Climate and Environment
Imagine working with a view of the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by lush nature. Guadeloupe offers a pleasant tropical climate all year round, similar to Bali or Thailand, but with a major advantage: the stability and security of a French department.
Cultural Diversity and Strategic Proximity
Here, you'll enjoy a unique blend of Caribbean and European cultures. proximity to Europe and North America is a major asset for business, especially with direct flights from the United States which significantly reduce travel time.
An Innovation Hub
Guadeloupe is not lagging behind in terms of technology and innovation. With local initiatives and the support of the French government, the island is positioning itself as a rapidly growing technological hub.
In short, Guadeloupe offers an exceptional quality of life combined with a stimulating business environment. It's fertile ground for digital entrepreneurs looking to combine quality of life with professional opportunities.

Understanding the Economic Climate in Guadeloupe
As an entrepreneur who started out in Guadeloupe, I can assure you that the island's economy is as rich as its biodiversity. Here's an overview of what you need to know about the local economic climate.
A Diversified Economy
Guadeloupe is not just about tourism. Agriculture, renewable energy, and information technology are booming sectors. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Guadeloupe Islands (CCI IG), among others, offers support to entrepreneurs.
I even had the pleasure of participating in the first conference on artificial intelligence in 2023!

Visit Government Support
As a French department, Guadeloupe benefits from subsidies and support from the French State, particularly for new businesses and innovative projects. This includes financial assistance such as that offered by BPI France, business creation advice, and professional training.
A Dynamic Market in an Advantageous Geographic Area
The local population is receptive to and eager for new technologies and innovations. Furthermore, the island's geographic location provides easy access to American and European markets.
Is jet lag an advantage?
Most digital nomads who choose to move to Asia complain that their clients in the home country contact them until late at night, pushing them to work very long days.
Here we are positioned in the opposite direction, we tend to get up a little earlier, which is not a problem because the sun rises early, and from noon onwards we are calm and can work without distraction because the metropolis has gone to bed (or gone to enjoy the beach, your choice 😁).
Personally, I find it to be a real comfort for work-life balance and mental workload.
Challenges to Overcome
Like any region, Guadeloupe faces challenges, particularly in logistics and infrastructure (water, environment, energy, transportation, access to healthcare, etc.). However, these challenges also represent opportunities for resourceful entrepreneurs.
In summary, Guadeloupe offers a dynamic and diversified economic environment, with significant support for entrepreneurs. It is fertile ground for those seeking to innovate and grow in a tropical setting. To learn more: the CCI website.
Moving to Guadeloupe: Practical Aspects
Settling in Guadeloupe as an entrepreneur or digital nomad requires careful preparation. Here are some practical tips based on my personal experience and information gathered through my interactions.

Administrative Formalities
As a French department, Guadeloupe follows the same administrative rules as mainland France. For EU citizens, settling in is relatively straightforward, particularly for healthcare professionals. For others, a visa may be required. It is important to contact the nearest French embassy or consulate to find out about specific procedures.
Pole emploi, the #1 VC in France! 😁
If you are eligible, unemployment benefits (ARE or Business Creation Assistance) are a great tool to come and settle in Guadeloupe without risks, test the digital nomad lifestyle, or create a startup without having to raise funds, which allows you to grow and recruit faster!
Finding Accommodation
Finding accommodation in Guadeloupe can be a challenge, especially during peak tourist season. Villa rentals are popular among expats and digital nomads.
The best thing to do is prioritize local agencies like ZeWelcome.com rather than Airbnb or Booking, Because you don't pay any service fees, you save between 15% and 20% on your rental price 👌
The neighborhoods of Gosier, Sainte-Anne, and Saint-François are highly sought after for their proximity to beaches and amenities. Furthermore, many businesses are based in Jarry, making Gosier and Petit-Bourg attractive towns due to their proximity to workplaces.
When we arrived with my girlfriend, we rented a villa for 1 month, to discover the island and better know where we wanted to settle.
👉 And that's perfect, I have a great tip for you:
Internet connection
Connectivity is essential for digital nomads. Guadeloupe offers good internet coverage, with fiber optic options in urban areas: Baie-Mahault, Les Abymes, Le Gosier, Le Moule, Sainte-Rose, Le Lamentin, Capesterre-Belle-Eau, Morne à l'Eau, Saint-Claude, Trois-Rivières, Goyave, Gourbeyre, Vieux-Fort.
In more remote areas, you will have to make do with ADSL, but rest assured it works quite well.
Transportation
Having a car is almost essential in Guadeloupe for exploring the island and getting to business meetings. Check on LeBonCoin or contact rental companies. Car rental is a convenient option, with many services available at the airport and in major cities.
👉 Use Rentiles to compare local offers and find the best price
Luggage and moving
If you plan to settle there long-term, a viable option might be to ship your car from mainland France. You pack all your belongings in it and rent a shipping container that is transported to Guadeloupe by boat. Here is my article on the list of things to pack in your suitcase !
In summary, settling in Guadeloupe requires some organization, but once there, the quality of life and professional opportunities more than compensate for the initial efforts.
Grants and Support for Entrepreneurs
As an entrepreneur in Guadeloupe, I've discovered that there are many grants and subsidies available to support entrepreneurial initiatives. Below are some key programs.

Adie (Association for the Right to Economic Initiative)
Adie is an organization that helps entrepreneurs obtain financing, particularly those who do not have access to traditional bank loans. It offers microloans and personalized support for business start-ups. For more information, visit their website: Goodbye.
Employment Grants
This program aims to encourage hiring in Guadeloupe by offering financial assistance to companies that recruit: approximately €13,000 over three years for hiring specific profiles. It's an opportunity for entrepreneurs to expand their teams while benefiting from financial support. Allow six months to one year for processing.
LOEDOM device
The Law for the Economic Development of Overseas Territories (LOEDOM) offers tax advantages to stimulate investment in the French overseas departments. This includes corporate tax reductions and investment incentives. For example, it encouraged us to hire our first employee at ZeWelcome because it significantly reduces social security contributions; instead of paying a salary twice—once to the employee and once to the government in social security contributions—the ratio is closer to 1.4.
ICT Check
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Voucher is a subsidy designed to encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to integrate new technologies into their operations. This program can cover part of the costs associated with acquiring digital solutions. It's ideal if you're a freelancer helping businesses digitize: your clients can receive €10,000 in aid to finance 80% of the project cost, paid directly to you. The only drawback is the slow processing time: expect to wait around two years for approval (frequent lost documents and the need for frequent follow-up to expedite the application).
ARICE
This could also be of interest if you need to invest heavily in equipment (production tools, supplies, business assets, etc.). My advice: seek assistance from a specialized firm that knows the relevant government officials involved in this program, as well as the tricks for completing the paperwork correctly, which will save valuable time.
French State aid
As a French department, Guadeloupe benefits from the same support as mainland France. This includes schemes such as the Research Tax Credit (CIR), the Innovation Tax Credit (CII), and specific aid for young innovative companies (JEI).
European Programs
As Guadeloupe is an outermost region of the EU, it has access to European funds such as the FEDER (European Regional Development Fund) and the EAFRD (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development). These funds can be used to finance local development, innovation, or infrastructure projects.
This support is essential for entrepreneurs who wish to launch or develop their business in Guadeloupe. It offers a significant financial boost to overcome initial challenges and accelerate growth.
VAT and registered office
The VAT rate is 8.51% here, which can be a competitive advantage for some international businesses. Registering your business address is straightforward, but may take a little longer than elsewhere; personally, I opted to register my consulting firm in Paris through the online service Les Tricolores.
Networks and Communities for Entrepreneurs in Guadeloupe
Guadeloupe offers a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem, but with one particularity: many entrepreneurial circles operate privately 😬, which can be a challenge for newcomers. Here are some concrete tips for integrating into these networks:
The WhatsApp Groups Private
Groups like "Entrepreneurs Solidaires", initiated by Julien Amodeo of Tech in the Caribbean, or "Friends of the Spot" created by the entrepreneur Jordan Succar These are examples of such private circles. It is essential to actively seek to be added to these groups, often via LinkedIn or other professional contacts.
GuadeloupeTech
This association regularly organizes networking events and meetings focused on digital technology and entrepreneurship. It's an excellent way to meet other professionals and stay informed about the latest trends.
The Incubators
Le Village by CA Guadeloupe and ZeBox Caribbean, the CMA-CGM incubator, These are key incubators offering valuable support to startups. More specialized, the incubators The Firsts (women's entrepreneurship), and The Lighthouse (social) may also interest you.
The Meetups
The ZeBox community meetups are great, with talented organizers Camille Pourret and Fatoumata Issa-Alzouma which frequently organizes open entrepreneurship-related events at its premises. These events are golden opportunities to expand your network and be inspired by other entrepreneurs.
Coworking Spaces
In addition to ZeBox, which offers monthly packages for members of its "Friends & Family" network, other spaces such as Iresa, CoWinner, Le Fort Coworking Social Hub, and Level Up Pli Wô offer suitable work environments conducive to networking (EWAG Article).
There are also cafes that are perfectly suited for working remotely for a day, such as the excellent Paper Coffee that I really like in Jarry, or the Clubhouse of the Sainte Anne nautical base (ANASA) with an incredible sea view.
Business Clubs
There are several Business Clubs focused on networking, collaboration, and cross-business. For example, "« All Entrepreneurs Guadeloupe »"which offers a LinkedIn page, a WhatsApp group for local entrepreneurs, and organizes networking events. Or LERECA which also organizes themed events.
The Third Placex
You will find in third places such as Caribbean Movements and Rézilyans unique opportunities to expand your network and immerse yourself in dynamic communities focused on sustainability and social innovation: eco-responsible initiatives, collaborations with companies to promote social responsibility, professional reintegration, permaculture, eco-construction or energy autonomy.
Local Entrepreneur Podcasts
To truly understand the entrepreneurial spirit in Guadeloupe and discover its community, there's nothing like listening to the stories and experiences of local people through podcasts. Here are a few suggestions 🎧🎙️:

The "CrazyMonkey" events«
Organized by Jordan Succar, A multi-talented entrepreneur from Guadeloupe with a thousand ideas a minute. Here are a few examples of the events he regularly organizes:
– The Débouya Conf, roundtables bringing together talented entrepreneurs for rich and qualitative discussions.
– The Debouya Sprint: Halfway between a design thinking workshop and practical training, these sessions are the ideal place to quickly develop your skills (no-code, automation…).

The conferences
It's impossible not to mention the excellent TEDx Pointe-à-Pitre, the annual event to recharge your inspiration and change your perspective on the world around us.

Industry-specific communities
Caribbean Factory For example, it is a unique adventure for entrepreneurs in Guadeloupe with an interest in industry and energy. As a pioneer in industrial tourism, it offers a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of local businesses, with a particular focus on the geothermal and cosmetics sectors.
Be open and participate!
Integrating into the Guadeloupean entrepreneurial community requires a proactive approach. It's crucial to be open, actively participate in local events, and seek membership in private groups to successfully integrate. The effort is well worth it!
Life in Guadeloupe: An Ideal Working Environment
Guadeloupe offers an exceptional quality of life that combines work and pleasure. Here are some concrete examples for each aspect of life on the island:
A Tropical Climate 🌴
Imagine starting your workday with a view of the Caribbean Sea, and a mild, sunny climate all year round. I'm writing these words from my terrace in Gosier, with a light breeze that makes working outdoors pleasant even in the middle of the day 😊

Unlimited Activities and Leisure 🏄♂️
After a productive day, there's nothing better than a hike in Guadeloupe National Park, exploring the rainforest and discovering hidden waterfalls. For diving enthusiasts, the waters around Pigeon Island offer spectacular dive sites, perfect for unwinding on the weekend.
A Vibrant Community
Guadeloupean culture is rich and welcoming. I had the opportunity to participate in the Guadeloupe Carnival, a vibrant festival that celebrates local culture with music, dance, and traditional costumes. It's an excellent way to immerse yourself in the community and build connections. The "Chanté Nwèl" carols are also a must-see at Christmas!
Good Accessibility
Guadeloupe is well served by direct flights from Paris, New York, and other major cities, making it easy for business trips. The Guadeloupe archipelago is surrounded by small islands where time seems to stand still for a weekend getaway: Marie-Galante, Les Saintes, and La Désirade.
It's also incredible to make a getaway to other Caribbean islands, For example, Dominica (2 hours by boat), Martinique (4 hours by boat or 30 minutes by plane), or catamaran cruises to Antigua and Barbuda, or Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 😎

Safety and Quality of Life
Living in Guadeloupe also means benefiting from a safe environment and quality public services, with developed health infrastructure, and administrative services similar to those offered in mainland France (try to plan ahead, time passes differently here).
In summary, Guadeloupe is not just a place of business opportunities, it is a true paradise for those seeking to combine work and quality of life.
My Personal Tips on the Specificities Unique to Guadeloupe
Ah, Guadeloupe! A paradise for entrepreneurs, but with its own little quirks 😅
👉 Here are my personal tips, ...with a touch of humor, to navigate this unique world:
1. Waze > Google Maps
Forget Google Maps for your journeys. Here, Waze is king! It knows every shortcut and avoids traffic jams better than a local.
Need to get somewhere? Request the exact geolocation via WhatsApp; GPS systems don't recognize most postal addresses.
2. Check the Shop Opening Hours
If Google or a website tells you a business is open, take it with a grain of salt. Online hours? More myth than reality. A word of advice: call before you go.
3. WhatsApp and Instagram, the New Kings
SMS, LinkedIn, Facebook Messenger? Those are a thing of the past. Here, everything happens on WhatsApp or Instagram. Get ready to become a voice messaging pro.

4. The Handshake: Key to Business
In Guadeloupe, business is done face-to-face, with a firm handshake. Forget video calls to close a deal; here, human contact is key.
5. Mobile Apps: Switch to Local Alternatives
No Uber, Vinted, or Amazon? Don't panic. This is the perfect opportunity to discover local alternatives or even launch your own business in a less saturated market.
👉 Local alternatives to known services:
- Deliveroo → EasyTaVie Please
- Uber → In Woute / Coco
- Veepee → Deal of the Islands / Foodiles
- The Candy → Travel Art Caribbean / Kkfèt
- Blablacar → Karos / Deposited
- Drivy → ZotCar
- SeLoger → Domimmo / LeBonCoin
- Meetup → Instagram
- Le Bon Coin → The Facebook group «"Gwada Connection"»
- LinkedIn → TuFéKwa
- Too Good To Go → Glan'Market
- Google → Ask your neighbor, they'll probably know more than Google 😅
6. Speak Creole
Learn the basics of Guadeloupean Creole and everyday expressions. It's cool, it shows your interest in the local culture, and it opens doors. And for those who aspire to become bilingual, head over to [website/platform name]. langue-créole.fr.
My favorite expression: «Sé grenn diri ka fé sak diri», it’s the grain of rice that makes the sack of rice, which we could try to translate as «small streams make great rivers».

7. Understanding Local History
Visit the ACTe Memorial Or pick up a book on the history of Guadeloupe. Understanding the colonial and slave-owning past is essential to deciphering our current era and understanding some of the roots of Guadeloupean society.
I also recommend Jessica Oublié's excellent comics «Tropiques Toxiques» and «Peyi an Nou» which decipher with finesse and authenticity the Chlordecone scandal and the history of the Bumidom.

8. Import and Adapt Concepts
No need to reinvent the wheel. Many concepts don't yet exist here. Import an idea and adapt it to local conditions. For example, a well-designed manicure booking service could be a huge success.
9. Vibe to the Local Rhythm
Listen to music and explore local dances: Shatta, Dancehall, Ragga, Biguine, Zouk, Gwoka, Kreol Jazz, Bouyon… Here's a playlist for a gentle immersion: https://linktr.ee/zewelcome 🎵 and every Saturday head to the pedestrian street of Pointe-à-Pitre, with its Gwoka atmosphere!

10. Smart Phone Plan
Get a metropolitan plan from Sosh. Plenty of gigabytes to work from anywhere, and above all, much cheaper than local phone offers.
11. Integrate the Gwada Connexion group
If you are looking for the beating heart of the online community in Guadeloupe, look no further than the Facebook group «Gwada Connexion».
It's a true melting pot of exchanges, information, and local tips. Imagine a place where you can find everything: sales ads, travel advice, lively debates, and even rants or job offers.
There you have it! With these tips, you're ready to conquer Guadeloupe while having fun. Have a great adventure! 🥳
My Conclusion
In short, Guadeloupe is much more than just a holiday destination. It's a a true haven for entrepreneurs and digital nomads.
With its dynamic economic climate, support for entrepreneurship, an active business community and an idyllic living environment, the island offers a perfect environment for those looking to combine work and pleasure.
My journey as an entrepreneur in Guadeloupe has been an incredible adventure, rich in discoveries and encounters.
I hope this article has given you a glimpse of what Guadeloupe has to offer and inspired you to consider this magnificent island as your next business destination 😊
